Shine North And Idris Elba’s Green Door Production Company Sign Exclusive Factual Programming Deal

13th May 2014

Shine North and Green Door, the production company recently established by Golden Globe winning and Emmy Award nominated actor and producer Idris Elba, today announced an exclusive co-production deal to develop factual programming.

The agreement follows a successful collaboration with Elba on Idris Elba:King of Speed. The Shine North/Shine TV co-production premiered on BBC2 in December 2013 and has subsequently sold to over 100 territories globally.

The deal sees Shine North and Green Door working together to develop and produce factual programmes for the UK and international market, with Elba in producer and presenter capacities and drawing on additional expertise from within Shine Group as relevant. Shine International will distribute projects internationally.

In addition to the multi-award winning actor’s leading film and television drama credits, Elba has previously hosted a number of successful factual specials including Channel 4’s 2011’s How Hip Hop Changed The World, and follow up How Clubbing Changed The World.

Idris Elba said: “Working with the guys on King of Speed was a great experience and one I wanted to repeat. This allows us to act on some of the ideas we bounced around during that show and is a great and early step up for Green Door.”

Shine North Managing Director Alex Connock said: “Idris is passionate about making quality factual TV as the success of his documentaries to date bear out. We are delighted to have Green Door as collaborators and we’re already underway on a number of exciting concepts.”

Green Door was launched by Elba last year and is currently in development a number of scripted projects for UK broadcasters. This new partnership sees Green Door moving into non scripted programming, with Elba personally developing this alongside Green Door’s Executive Producers Nicholas Yearwood and Ben Schneider.

The deal was brokered on behalf of Shine UK by Princess Productions Co-Managing Director Emma Hardy and The Artists Partnership representing Green Door. The collaboration will be creatively managed by Shine North’s Rick Murray who Executive Produced King of Speed with Elba.
