1st Apr 2012
Shine International, the sales and distribution arm of Shine Group, confirmed today the first international broadcaster for Real Humans. SBS, Australia’s leading pub-caster, has today secured the Australian network premiere for the major new Nordic Noir drama, Real Humans. Shine International launched the show today at MIPTV 2012 and the 10-part series debuted on SVT1 in January, when it exceeded the networks 9pm slot average by +27% share (viewers aged 12-59).
SBS simultaneously confirmed today it has struck major new deals with Shine International for the Australian premiere for the US versions of One Born Every Minute and History Cold Case, together with Channel 4 UK’s hit series, 24 Hours in A&E.
The deal was agreed on the first day of MIPTV 2012 and announced by Jane Roscoe, Network Programmer at SBS and Matthew Ashcroft, SVP – Asia Pacific and Australia, International Distribution at Shine International.
Jane Roscoe announced the news, “Real Humans is an exceptional piece of television drama and we’re delighted to bringing this superb series to Australian households first. Truly original in its concept, brilliantly written and performed, every scene of Real Humans is packed with action, danger and emotion. Real humans challenges our imagination. What would the world be like if equally populated by robots? I’m confident that Real Humans will capture the hearts and minds of our viewers.”
Matt Ashcroft welcomed the news, “We’re all incredibly excited to be premiering Real Humans in Australia with SBS. Scandinavia has quickly established itself as a home for some of the most compelling and creative scripted programming – and Real Humans is a heavyweight representative for that. Today’s new deal will also see the Australia premiere for all-new seasons of One Born Every Minute, History Cold Case and 24 Hours in A&E, an exceptional line-up of TV’s most popular and celebrated multi-camera primetime shows.”
One Born Every Minute USA is the hit series produced for Lifetime and based on the BAFTA award-winning format created by Dragonfly Film & Television for Channel 4 in the UK. Following the drama, emotion and intimacy from inside a major maternity unit, the US and UK series now totals 58 episodes and a second season is currently in production for TF1 in France.
History Cold Case is the fascinating factual series which investigates the previous lives of humans based upon the unearthing of their skeletons. The hit US series was commissioned by National Geographic and based on the original BBC Two series, both produced by Shine TV.
24 Hours in A&E is the 28 part primetime factual series from The Garden Productions, commissioned by Channel 4 UK and filmed inside the diverse and fast-paced world of London’s largest accident and emergency unit. The series has fast established itself as one of the UK’s most popular multi-camera shows and received critical acclaim on its UK premiere.
