15 Major Broadcasters Acquire Shine International’s Channel 4 Special ‘Sinking of the Concordia

London, Friday 17 February 2012. Shine International today announced 15 major new broadcast deals for Terror at Sea: The Sinking of the Concordia, the high-profile Channel 4 documentary special co-produced with National Geographic Channel US.

The primetime portfolio of sales includes Sky Italia, TF1 France and Australia’s Network Ten. The deals were confirmed by Ruth Clarke, VP, Head of EMEA at Shine International.

Clarke said, “This tragic event has captured the hearts and fascination of the world. Through the unique use of real-time footage, high-quality CGI production and exclusive interviews with survivors, rescuers and world renowned specialists, Dragonfly have expertly recreated a powerful minute-by-minute account of this devastating event, as it unfolded, and then challenges what has been previously learnt since the sinking of the Titanic.”

Terror at Sea: The Sinking of the Concordia will air on Australia’s Network Ten on 19 February at 9.30pm. Major broadcasters across Europe that have today secured the special include Sky Italia; N24 (Germany); RTL (Luxembourg and separately in Croatia); RTL - TVI (French speaking Belgium); RTS (French speaking Switzerland); SBS (Holland); SF (German speaking Switzerland); TF1 (France); TV2 (Denmark), TV2 (Norway); TV4 (Sweden); Nelonen (Finland) and VRT (Belgium).

Terror at Sea: The Sinking of the Concordia premiered on Channel 4 in the UK and was watched by 3.4 million at 8-9pm, increasing the channel’s slot average by a 79% share (All Individuals). The commission was Channel 4’s highest rated programme of the day.

The 1-hour HD special was co-produced by National Geographic and Dragonfly Film & Television, the BAFTA award-winning producers behind Channel 4’s number 1 rating series, One Born Every Minute.
