9th Jun 2014
Camelot UK Lotteries Limited – operator of The National Lottery – today announced that it has awarded a long-term contract to produce The National Lottery Live, its live draw show coverage which airs on the BBC, to Princess Productions.
Princess was awarded the contract following a rigorous competitive pitch process, which took five months to complete and included the current incumbent, Endemol. Camelot is now working with both Endemol and Princess to ensure a seamless transition when Princess takes over production services on 1st July 2014.
Martyn Fox, Controller of Broadcast & Production for Camelot, said: “We were incredibly impressed by the very high standard of pitches received across the board and particularly by Princess’ submission.
“Princess has a great track record in producing live TV, working across a variety of genres, and we are delighted to be working with them on The National Lottery Live. We were impressed with their creative ideas for enhancing the existing coverage and extending the draw show experience for our players into the digital and social space, which will continue to be an important focus for The National Lottery brand going forward.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Endemol for their excellent work over the past eight years.”
Emma Hardy, co-Managing Director, Princess Productions said: “The National Lottery Show is part of the fabric of Saturday nights, it is a great privilege to be awarded this contract and we are hugely excited to start working with both Camelot and the BBC.”
Camelot confirmed that The National Lottery Live will continue to be produced from its current home at Pinewood Studios, and that the contract with Princess Productions, part of Shine Group, covers the production of live Lotto and Thunderball draws as a key part of the BBC’s Saturday night schedule.
The new contract with Princess Productions runs until December 2016.
