Shine Iberia Arrives in Spain Led By A Well-Established Team of Industry Professionals

• Macarena Rey, CEO of Shine Group’s Spanish subsidiary, will be leading this latest venture for global production group, whose worldwide format hits include “Master Chef”, “Biggest Loser”, “Got to Dance”, The Family” and “One Born Every Minute”, the last of which Shine Iberia will soon begin production of in Spain

• Ana Rivas, Nacho Faerna, Virginia Yagüe, David F. Miralles and Rui Avila will be the managing team of Shine’s subsidiary for Spain and Portugal.

Madrid, Spain. October 17th, 2011 - Shine Iberia, the Spanish arm of Shine Group has recently started to operate in Spain, thus entering the growing network of Shine Group production companies in key regions worldwide. Macarena Rey, a well-known professional with extensive experience in the field, will be leading Shine Iberia.

For the development of this new project, Macarena Rey, former Head Manager of BocaBoca Producciones, has recruited a team of well-established professionals under the leadership of Nacho Faerna, Head Manager of Fiction, Virginia Yagüe, Executive Producer of Fiction, David F. Miralles, Area Manager of Factual and Ana Rivas, Head Manager of Entertainment. Likewise, Rui Avila will be the Head Manager for Shine in Portugal.

Launched only two months ago Shine Iberia has already sold its famous “One Born Every Minute” format, a large scale production to be recorded in the Maternity ward of the O’Donnell hospital in Madrid, and will be premiering in La Sexta in Q1 ’12.
Globally successful formats

Founded by Elisabeth Murdoch in 2001, currently the Shine Group stands at 26 companies across three continents, including the United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany, Australia and Scandinavia andconsists of revered genre specialists such as Dragonfly (factual), Kudos (drama), and Princess Productions (entertainment), as well as award-winning multi-genre companies such as Shine TV, Reveille and Metronome Film & Television. Shine International, the group’s subsidiary for international distribution, is responsible for the broadcasting of over 3,000 TV hours every year. Shine Iberia will not only operate as a content creator, but as the Group’s exclusive representative and producer in Spain and Portugal.

Until June this year, Macarena Rey was the General Manager of BocaBoca Producciones (with successes such as “21 Días”, “Carrero Blanco”, “2055”, “Conexión Samanta”, “Rescatando a Sara” and “Vidas Robadas”), and was recruited for this company after her experience in Grupo Drive, in which she worked in the same capacity. Rey, Bachelor of Business Administration, has developed her long career in TV in many fields and genres, which included working as Head Manager of Produce+ (Canal+), Manager of Internal Production and TV Features and Documentaries for Canal+, Head of Contents for Telefónica Media, where she also was head of international joint productions.

Nacho Faerna, Head Manager of Fiction

Nacho Faerna, a screenwriter for cinema (“La mujer más fea del mundo”) and TV (“Inocente, Inocente” (Forta)), “El super” (Telecinco), “Antivicio” (Antena 3), “Amar en tiempos revueltos” (TVE)…), has also published two novels (“Quieto” and “Bendita democracia americana”) and a children’s tale (“Olvídate de subir a los árboles”). He has also taught screenwriting in the ESCAC, Casa de América, ECAM, Universidad Carlos III… Among his most recent achievements as a screenwriter and executive producer for BocaBoca Producciones, it’s worth noting the “El Comisario” (Telecinco) TV series, as well as the “La piel azul” (Antena 3) and “El asesinato de Carrero Blanco” (TVE) mini-series. He is also the creator, screenwriter and executive producer of the “2055″ (Telecinco) series, currently in production.

Virginia Yagüe, Executive Producer of Fiction
In TV, she’s has been the creator and screenwriter of TVE’s “La Señora” and “14 de abril. La República” series, and she has also worked as a screenwriter for several TV series such as “Isabel”, “Amar en tiempos revueltos” (winner of the Silver Medal for the Best Drama TV Series in the New York Festivals and the Premio Ondas award in 2008), “Capital”, “Calle Nueva”, Plaza Alta”, “El Super”, “Campus”, “Arrayán” (winner of the Premio Ondas award to the Best Spanish TV Series of 2005) and “Esencia de Poder”, among others. It’s also worth noting her work as a screenwriter for TV-movies and in motion pictures, where she has worked jointly with Patricia Ferreira in “Para que no me olvides”, “En el mundo, a cada rato”, “Ellas son África” and “Los niños Salvajes”.
Virginia Yagüe combines her work in screenwriting with teaching and the publishing of novels such as “El marqués” (Temas de Hoy. 2009) and “Las amigas inesperadas” (soon to be published).

Davis F. Miralles, Area Manager of Factual

David F. Miralles has been working in the field of documentaries and information features for over 15 years. During the last 4 years, Miralles has worked as head of department for documentaries and new formats for BocaBoca and as the executive producer of “21 Días” (awarded with a Premio Ondas), “Conexión Samanta” and “Malas Pulgas”, for Cuatro. Furthermore, he has directed several documentaries for TVE and A3, such as “Carrero Blanco, el consejero fiel”, “Conflicto bajo el Mar” and “Raphael”. He has also broad expertise in ENG and feature documentaries production for Canal+ and the CAPA Agency, and has directed documentaries for national, regional and private broadcasting networks, such as: “Entre líneas” and the format “El documental” (TV3), several features in Documentos TV (TVE), “Animalia”(Telemadrid), as well as several documentaries for ARTE.

Ana Rivas, Head of Entertainment

Ana Rivas has joined Shine Iberia from Antena 3, where she served as Head of Entertainment Programming for 4 years. Prior to that, she worked as an executive producer for Globomedia productions and was the director of TV shows such as “El Club de la Comedia”, which was awarded with the Premio Ondas in 2000; “Noche Hache” for Cuatro or “Planeta Finito” for La Sexta. Furthermore, in La Sexta she was the manager of theatrical works and other derived works such, with huge box-office hits as “5hombres.com” and “5mujeres.com”. For over 20 years, Ana Rivas has developed her professional career encompassing the fields of direction, screenwriting and executive productions of TV shows, working as well for Telecinco, Zeppelin, Videomedia and Disney.

Rui Avila, Head Manager for Shine in Portugal

Rui Avila has gathered over 18 years worth of expertise in the industry. He has joined Shine Iberia after working for Endemol, where he has served as the executive producer and manager of projects such as “Gran Hermano”, “Secret Story – Casa dos Segredos” and “Uma Canção Para Ti” for TVI, “Chamar a Musica” for SIC y “MasterChef” for RTP. Prior to that, he was the head of production for Eyeworks-Cuatrocabezas, where he developed and produced projects such as “Portugueses Pelo Mundo” for RTP and “CQC – Caiga Quien Caiga” for TVI.
Rui Avila has worked as a production director in Plural and TGSA, where he was in charge of the production of fiction formats such as “Jardins Proíbidos” and “Sonhos Traídos” for TVI and “Floribella” for SIC, among others.
