Shine Launches 400 Hours of Non-Scripted Primetime Programming!

29th Mar 2012

Shine International, the sales and distribution arm of Shine Group, has struck a major new content deal with Discovery Networks Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA) bringing more than 50 hours of primetime factual and entertainment programming to the TLC network in Poland, Russia & CIS, Balkans & Romania.

The deal includes the pan-regional premieres of One Born Every Minute and MasterChef USA with Gordon Ramsay and follows on from the launch of 200 hours of Shine International programming with Discovery Networks across Latin America.

Lisa Higginson, Sales Manager for Central & Eastern Europe at Shine International announced the deal: “The reach and popularity of TLC across CEE means that the very biggest and best of factual commissions from the US and UK are reaching over 20 million households every day. Today’s deal, featuring over 50 hours of high-profile programming is particularly exciting for UK producers, as three of these big new acquisitions; MasterChef, One Born Every Minute and History Cold Case, are all US productions based on UK commissions. This deal underlines the scale of the TV brands, and their performance as unscripted formats we’re bringing to our partners in the market. The deal will also see the CEE launch of Channel 4 UK’s hugely successful, 24 Hours in A&E.”

Shine International is set to launch over 400 hours of all new primetime factual and entertainment programming at MIPTV 2012. The new portfolio will include the worldwide launch of A Chance to Dance, the original 7-part series from Nigel and Simon Lythgoe for Ovation USA; the premiere of BBC Two UK’s biggest ever social experiment, Babies in the Office; Channel 4’s Bear’s Wild Weekends; all new seasons of MasterChef and the top rated Channel 4 commissions, 24 Hours in A&E and One Born Every Minute. Other new programming includes the worldwide launch of Princess Productions’ The Date Machine, the dazzling new dating game-show which puts ‘love at first sight’ to the test. Also from Princess, the makers of Got To Dance, will be the hot new format Secret Street Crew, where life is the dance floor in the smash hit format for Sky 1.

MasterChef has established itself as one of Discovery Networks highest rated series and is recognised as one of the world’s most successful formats, produced locally in over 30 countries including, BBC One (UK), FOX (USA), TF1 (France) and TEN in Australia. The hit show is watched in more than 200 territories worldwide and has achieved in excess of $270 million at retail with brand extensions. Shine International will be distributing 27 different language versions at MIPTV 2012, including the launch of MasterChef India, Portugal and Peru as completed series.

One Born Every Minute is the BAFTA award winning multi-camera format which follows the drama, intimacy and emotion from inside a maternity ward. The original series launched on Discovery CEEMEA in 2011 and consistently delivers top performance slots for the broadcaster. Produced by Dragonfly Film & Television, the show is an original commission by Channel 4 in the UK where it remains one of the networks highest rated shows. The format is set to return for a second season in France with TF1, where its first season debuted as one of the channels highest rated new commissions in 2011.
