21st Mar 2013
Dragonfly Film and Television today announced the appointment of Mark Raphael to the role of Creative Director.
Raphael, currently Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor for Documentaries takes up the role vacated by Simon Dickson when he became MD of the independent in November last year. As Creative Director, Raphael will work closely with the editorial team at Dragonfly both on current productions and those in development. He commences his new role in the beginning of May.
Raphael joined Channel 4 in his current role in 2009 taking charge of the Cutting Edge strand. His commissions include the award winning Katie: My Beautiful Face, Lifers, Obsessive Compulsive Hoarder, the BAFTA-winning Educating Essex, and the up and coming landmark documentary The Murder Trial. Prior to joining C4, Raphael was Head of Factual at North One Television.
Dragonfly Managing Director Simon Dickson said: “Mark is a hugely creative and supportive commissioner who has a brilliant eye for a story and a passion for it being told well. He was a much valued colleague when we worked at Channel 4 together previously and I know he will both complement and help us grow as a team at Dragonfly.”
Channel 4 Head of Factual Ralph Lee said: “Mark has been a great commissioner for Channel 4, making his mark with standout series like Educating Essex and singles with impact such as Katie: My Beautiful Face. We wish Mark well in his new role and his return to the indie sector.”
Mark Raphael said; “I have loved my time at C4, but now feel ready for a new challenge. The Dragonfly team is at the start of a new chapter and the opportunity to be part of that story, and create a home for the very best talent within the factual world is genuinely exciting.”
