Stephen Garrett

Executive Chairman

Stephen Garrett is Executive Chairman of Shine Pictures.

Prior to this, Stephen was Commissioning Editor, Youth at C4 from 1987 to 1992. Stephen then co-founded Kudos, launching with Rory Bremner’s BAFTA-winning C4 series (with Garrett as Executive Producer). Kudos’ and Garrett’s first drama production was the feature Among Giants. This was followed by C4 serial Psychos (Executive Producer), and the International Emmy Award-winning The Magician’s House (executive producer). After bringing in Jane Featherstone as partner, Garrett and Kudos have made the BAFTA- winning Spooks (based on Garrett’s original idea, the first series of which he executive produced), Hustle, Life on Mars, and Law & Order:UK (with Garrett also Executive Producing).

Under the rebranded Shine Pictures, movies include Brighton Rock, Eastern Promises (executive producer), Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (producer), and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (Executive Producer). Imminent projects include Spooks: The Greater Good and 3 Seconds.

Garrett is on the board of the British Screen Advisory Council and Creative Skillset. In 2010, he was the Visiting Professor of Broadcast Media at Oxford University. He has contributed articles about television and film, as well as on media policy to the FT, the Guardian, the Independent and the Sunday Times.

Garrett studied Jurisprudence at Oxford whilst editing the university magazine Isis.
